Shine, Shine, Shine
With the holidays here, our neighborhoods, town centers, and shopping stores are shining. Lights wrap around houses and trees. Wreaths and bows decorate the street lamps. And, brightly-wrapped gifts begin appearing all around.
With this illumination, it reminds me of the ways we evolve ourselves as human beings. Well, really there are two basic ways to grow. The first is to hack away at the things we don’t want. I call this looking into our darkness. It’s looking into our weak areas, or challenge spots, and seeing what went wrong so we don’t make the same mistakes again in the future.
And, there’s nothing really wrong with this. For, in fact, we can learn a lot from our previous errors.
The problem I often see is that people can get sucked into this process of chipping away at their dark side. I mean, they spend so much time with therapists, psychics, or in self-improvement workshops in order to eradicate their darkness and let their own light shine. When this happens, their focus is more on their dark than the shine of their soul.
The second way to improve yourself is much easier—it’s to place your focus on what you do want in your life and let the light of that grow bigger. The passion, purpose, and joy that comes with this focus creates a light so bright that it out-shines any darkness that might be there at all.
And, this is what I think the holiday season is all about. It’s committing to the light that is within us. It’s recognizing that we all shine with a unique soul’s direction and doing our best to continually fuel that fire. This begs the question, “What are you doing this season to make your internal light get brighter?”
Take some time this week to celebrate your light. Do something that makes you smile. Do something that spreads that smile with those around you. And, allow that brightness within you to get so big that there can be no darkness seen around you whatsoever.
