Small Things Matter

Small Things Matter

Napolean Hill, the author of Think and Grow Rich, always says it is the small daily task that create great things!  He helped many people become millionaires and his advice in the book is absolutely life changing!  I believe and know that the small things matter and I am going to dive in nutrition as my example of how the small thing matter.

Let's face it, we all know that our current weight is a result of calories in and calories out. If we have a little extra weight on us it is because we eat more than we burn. If we are a little under weight than we burn more than we eat.

So as an example, if a person has a 2000 calorie diet for their body's height & weight and every day they are eating just a small amount over, say 250 calories. Well after 1 week they will gain a half a pound.  After 1 year they will gain 26 pounds.  That is a significant amount! The little extra 250 calories matters. Same thing if you want to lose weight!  If you eat or exercise so you have a deficiency of 250 calories you can lose a half a pound a week or 26 pounds in a year!

Now don't get me wrong, there is a lot more to nutrition than calories. Making sure you are getting all of your vitamins and minerals in is extremely important. Portion sizes, listening to your body and being grateful when we have food is also key.  For simplicity purposes, the calories in, calories out formula is a simple reminder that the small things matter.  I am a personal trainer and fitness instructor and I think it is important for people to be aware of what they are eating.  A simple journal can help anyone start to better understand their nutrition, timing, portions, calories, etc.  I would recommend to see a registered dietician if you want specifics on your bodies needs.

Simple small things matter!

Simple small things matter! I believe we have made nutrition so complicated and confusing. It does not have to be that way!  And it is the perfect example of how the tasks we do everyday do matter and will add up to be significant!
